The Gup-R is a Gup that appears in Season 5, more specifically The Bluefin Tuna and The Wood Eating Catfish. It returns later in Octonauts: Above & Beyond as the main gup that is driven by Calico Jack.
Characteristics
The Gup-R is a speedy Gup based on a Sailfish, the fastest fish in the ocean. It is said to be the second fastest Gup of all, the Gup-B being the first.

Trivia
- Despite its canonical debut taking place in Season 5, it’s now made its official debut in Above and Beyond Season 1 due to the delay. This leaves little explanation for its first appearance in the third episode, The Beetle Invasion.
- In its original Season 5 debut episode, Kwazii is shown to have some form of dislike towards the Gup. This may have to do with him helping Tweak with all the work on it, but not getting to introduce or test out its features when it’s finally finished. This could also be attributed to how the Gup-R has fairly similar capabilities to the Gup-B, if not even better, leaving Kwazii trying to pretend it isn’t as cool.
- In The Beetle Invasion, Calico Jack has made some touch ups to the gup and now refers to it as the Gup-Rrrr, saying it like a pirate.
