Manatees are air breathing mammals that live in the ocean, and some freshwater rivers. They stay as close to the surface as they can because they can hold their breath only for a little while, and because they swim very slowly, they often gently glide to move through the water. Hence their ancestors, the sea cows, the main food that they eat is sea grass.
