Mervyn is an Antarctic microbe who is so small you can't see him without a microscope. He lives in the red lake under the ice where he and the rest of his microbe friends eat the rust. He ended up being scooped up by Shellington when he took a water sample back to the Gup-S. He introduced himself to Shellington when he was sulking about not finding a new creature. After talking with him he told Shellington that he needed to get back to his home desperately as it was too hot in the Gup-S and he was "boiling.” Shellington then helped him get back to the lake where he was relieved. After he got back home he took Shellingon to go meet his other microbe friends (Jeb, Shirley, and Alice). Soon after meeting the microbes Shellington realized he was lost so Mervyn and the others called Captain Barnacles' name to help them find him. When Barnacles and Kwazii found Shellington Mervyn introduced himself and the others, but as the ice hole was freezing over the crew had to leave and Mervyn and the microbes bid their farewells.

Mervyn is blue with a clear membrane around him, and a clear antennae on his head. His legs are small and stubby which is the same for his arms except he has small spheres floating around them. His stomach is probably the small circle in the middle of him as it has small red dots in it which could be bits of rust that he eats.
