The Octonauts and the Ring of Fire is a film based on Meomi's hit show The Octonauts. The film is centered around the Octonauts embarking on their most dangerous mission yet: to explore the Pacific Ocean, rescue the creatures affected by tsunamis & volcanic eruptions, and protect the ocean from the volcanic activity of the Ring of Fire. It was originally going to be released in China on October 1, 2020, but it was delayed due to the release of Caves of Sac Actun and Great Barrier Reef. It was eventually released in China on January 8, 2021, and was released on Netflix worldwide on March 30, 2021.

Plot[]

The film opens with the Octonauts dispersed across the vast Pacific, on various missions. They are blissfully unaware of the looming catastrophe. Dashi and Shellington are diligently searching for the rare Omura's Whale, deeply engrossed in their scientific quest, completely oblivious to the brewing seismic activity below them.

Meanwhile, Captain Barnacles, Peso, and Inkling are aboard the Octopod, heading towards a chilly destination. Their aim is a heartwarming reunion with Peso's cousins, a colony of Chinstrap Penguins. The journey is calm and routine, filled with camaraderie, a stark contrast to the urgency that will soon engulf them.

Back at the Octopod's base, a vital operation is underway. Tunip, Grouber, Barrot, Tominnow, and Codish, the industrious Vegimals, are tending their seaweed farm. Their focus is on sustainable harvest, ensuring a steady supply of nutritious produce, illustrating the peaceful, orderly rhythm before disaster strikes.

Further afield, Tweak and Kwazii, the dynamic duo, are at the Octo-Repair Station. Their crucial task: inspecting all the Gups' engines, ensuring peak condition. For this, they rely on the new Z-Gups (Z-1 through Z-5), a fleet designed for enhanced capabilities, showcasing Octonauts' continuous innovation.

Suddenly, the tranquil scene shatters. The Ring of Fire, a colossal chain of volcanoes both above and below the Pacific, unleashes a devastating eruption. This initial explosion triggers a terrifying domino effect, awakening dormant volcanoes across the vast ocean basin.

The widespread volcanic activity unleashes chaos, disturbing diverse creatures and delicate plant life. From temperature shifts to debris, the marine environment is in turmoil. Communications across the Octonauts' network are severed, isolating each team from the main Octopod and from one another.

Cut off from central command, each Octonauts group confronts perilous situations independently. Dashi and Shellington's mission turns into a desperate rescue: the Omura's Whale they sought is beached by tsunamis. They must combine knowledge and ingenuity to save it.

Captain Barnacles, Peso, and Inkling aboard the Octopod, navigating treacherous waters, shift focus from their visit to vital rescue. They contend with the chaotic ocean, aiding Chinstrap Penguins and other marine life caught in the disaster's path, showing leadership under pressure.

In their separate, harrowing journeys to escape dangers and eventually reunite, the Octonauts valiantly rescue many affected creatures. Beyond the Omura's Whale and Chinstrap Penguins, they receive unexpected aid from Coconut Crabs and discover creatures near erupting volcanoes.

Ultimately, through their individual acts of heroism, perseverance, and quick thinking, the Octonauts save countless lives and mitigate threats posed by the Ring of Fire. They demonstrate working with what you have, and the powerful aid found when helping each other in a crisis.

Trivia[]

  • The Coconut Crabs make their third appearances in the franchise. They also meet Dashi and Shellington for the first time as well.
  • The crab and urchin from Season 1 also reappear in this movie.
  • Training videos were seen for the second time, the first happening in the Very Vegimal Christmas. They are a key factor in the film, as most of them helped remind everyone about how to deal with different situations.
  • The Gup-R, a Gup that is supposed to debut in the Season 5 episode, The Bluefin Tuna, was shown in a short scene in the Octo-Repair Station.
  • It is revealed that Kwazii has been practicing on Polar Bear strength, as he used it to save Tweak.
  • Moral #1: Sometimes You just have to work with what you got. (As seen with Tweak and from Omura's whale)
  • Moral #2: In times like this, we've all got to help each other.
  • It released a day earlier before another action film: Godzilla Vs. Kong.
  • This is the third Octonauts film released on Netflix.
  • Due to Sarah Faust and Helen Walsh taking over the roles of the Vegimals in Above & Beyond, this movie marks Michael C. Murphy’s final time fully voicing Tunip and the Vegimals. From this point onwards, his performance is only rarely heard through reused audio.
  • Multiple references to the 1980s were made throughout the movie's runtime, including a reference to the Commodore 64. When Tweak and Kwazii go to reboot the repair station’s computer system, you can briefly see LOAD “*” ,8 ,1, a reference to the Commodore 64.
  • During the opening, you can see what appears to be a V8 or V6 engine inside of the Gup-B.
  • Peso's xylophone makes its first reappearance since the Season 1 episode, The Beluga Whales.
