Sehuencas Water Frogs are a rare type of frog that are only native to Bolivia in South America. These frogs were said to have been extinct because they have been threatened by habitat loss, water warming up too much, frog eggs being eaten by predators, even a harmful fungus. But then there were some frogs that have been located and are currently going through captive breeding to restore their population.
In Octonauts Above and Beyond Season 2, in the episode "The Lonely Frog", Paani the Monkey meets a lonely male water frog named Ernesto who was searching for his long-lost family of waters frogs. He contacts the Octopod, and Captain Barnacles sends Peso, Shellington, and Dashi in the TG-4 to help them find more frogs. They make a recording of Ernesto's call and turn up the volume until they finally hear other frogs calling. The trio finds another male frog and a female frog on the riverbank, but they are sick with the sort of fungus that harms them. Peso gives them a special ointment to heal them, but they had to be quarantined in a water bubble for a few days until the fungus was gone. Ernesto was so excited to meet his new cousins that he hopped as fast as he could to reach them. After escaping from a hungry coral snake, Paani and Ernesto reach the other, but the frogs end up in the river headed for a waterfall. Fortunately, the team saved them and waited for the water to clear away of the fungus. After a few days, the frogs were released and happily swam with each other as a family.
