Pearl[]
Pearl is Shellington's older sister. She is a scientist like him and studies everything about kelp forests and the plants and animals that live in them. She does urchin duties by eating the red urchins that destroy kelp forests. However, Shellington is shown to have mild allergies to red urchins, despite him being a sea otter. Pearl also has responsibilities caring for her son, Periwinkle, by feeding him, cleaning him, and teaching him how to dive and eat urchins. As scientists, both Pearl and Shellington respect each other's ways of helping the ocean and studying the creatures in it. She sometimes refers to him as "Little Brother", and he doesn't seem to mind.
Periwinkle[]
Periwinkle is Shellington's nephew. While Peri mostly stays with his mother, he appears to be very interested in how his uncle Shellington does his work. In The Pink Glacier, Shellington spends the day with his nephew building a model of a siphonophore while Pearl goes to do research. In The Giant Carp, Periwinkle states that he wants to be a scientist like both of them when he grows up.

Shellington appears to spend more time with Dashi more than anyone else on the crew, because they go on many missions and adventures together.
Tweak[]
Tweak often gets irritated whenever Shellington crashes the Gup-D and has to fix it again, but even though they don't interact much, they appear to be on good terms.
Professor Inkling[]
Shellington and Professor Inkling get on well due to their interest in learning about creatures and science. Sometimes, they will add to each other's scientific facts while on missions. A good example is when they have to explain about sea snot. Shellington also visits Inkling's library, often to find the book he needs for his experiments.
Tunip and the Vegimals[]
Shellington has a somewhat a fatherly bond with the Vegimals. Shellington first discovered the Vegimals as eggs on the side of the Octopod. After hatching, they all grew an incredible bond with Shellington. Shellington also speaks Vegimalese somewhat fluently.

Shellington and Selva at first had an accidental encounter when one of Shellington's Vegimals wandered off in search for flowers. Later, they seemed to get along well with Shellington even inviting Selva to attend Captain Barnacles' Birthday.

Platypus Family[]
Shellington got stung by a father Platypus in The Duck-Billed Platypus when he and his wife were looking for their missing egg. After Peso returned their missing baby and bandaged Shellington's leg, they made amends and thanked them and the crew for watching their little one.
Mervyn the Microbe[]
Shellington first encounters Mervyn and his friends in The Hidden Lake. Though he only meeting him for a short amount of time, he was willing to help him get back to his lake because the Gup was too hot for Mervyn. However, because the ice hole that led to the red lake was freezing up, the crew had to get Shellington out of there after getting lost.

Bridget[]
Bridget is a beautiful, yet troublesome, Rainbow Blanket Octopus. She only appeared in The Mystery of the Longfin Eels, where Shellington went to ask her if she saw any missing baby eels, but he didn't stop to realize she was trouble due to his curiosity. She claims she never saw them, but also that they sounded tasty. As she was suggesting him to ask Randy the Gray Reef Shark, she wrapped Shellington in her blanket and tentacles in attempt to eat him, but she was stopped by Dashi and Koshi. Noticing he had back-up with him, she molted her blanket and swam off.
