Octonauts Wiki

The Octonauts and the Billabong Mystery” is the twenty-third episode of the Above & Beyond spin-off series' fourth season.

Tracker and Koshi’s bird-studying mission is upended when a mysterious egg appears.

Plot[]

The episode begins in the Arctic, where Tracker is at his base writing in Koshi's journal about how he helped her solve a mystery in Australia. We flashback to Australia, where Captain Barnacles drops Koshi and Tracker off in the Terra-Gup 6 before departing. Koshi gives Tracker a tour of the area, hoping to find some budgies. Tracker accidentally falls into a billabong, a small body of water that forms when a river changes course. Upon getting out, Tracker stumbles upon an echidna named Amelia, who warns him to let her rest. Koshi and Tracker find an egg left in the grass. Thinking it could belong to a budgie, Tracker and Koshi take the egg and set out to find its owner.

While looking for budgies, Koshi and Tracker find an emu, who brags about how big his eggs are and that he does not leave them even to eat; he fattens up before the eggs are laid and settles down near a water source to keep himself hydrated. Eventually, Koshi and Tracker find a tree full of budgies and ask around if anyone lost an egg. One of the budgies, Betty, tells them that the egg could not belong to a budgie as the egg is soft. Tracker realizes that since the egg is leathery, it might belong to a reptile instead. Suddenly, the duo is approached by a carpet python hungry for budgie eggs.

Koshi and Tracker lure the python away from the budgies and ask her if the egg is hers. After smelling the egg with her tongue, she says it's not hers, but she would love to eat it. Tracker offers the python Creature Crunch, but she is not interested. As Tracker and Koshi run from the python, they trick her to slither on some loose dirt, causing her to fall into the billabong. Tracker and Koshi find shelter in a tree and sound the Octo-alert. Captain Barnacles tunes in from the Terra-Gup 6 while Shellington, Professor Inkling, and Peso tune in from the Octopod.

The dup explains the situation. Shellington hypothesizes that the egg belongs to a reptile and does a search to see who it belongs to while Captain Barnacles heads back to Koshi and Tracker. The carpet python finds them and reveals she can climb trees and corners Koshi and Tracker on a branch. The budgies, remembering how the duo saved them earlier, return the favor by mobbing the python to distract her long enough before flying back to their tree. Captain Barnacles arrives just in time and rescues Koshi and Tracker, causing the python to again fall in the billabong.

Upon landing, Shellington contacts them and tells them that the egg belongs to an echidna. Amelia returns and reveals that the egg belongs to her. Shellington explains that even though echidnas are mammals, they can actually lay eggs and keep them in their pouches. Koshi tells Tracker that he should write the next Sisterly Mystery, which Tracker enthusiastically accepts. The episode ends with the flashback ending back the North Pole, as Tracker wraps up his story.
