"The Octonauts and the Curious Penguin" is the eleventh episode of the Above & Beyond spin-off series' first season.
Determined to make his older brother proud of him, Pinto assists Dashi on some missions in an attempt to earn his own octo-watch. But, Pinto soon realises that his tendency to rush into action won't make his goal easy.
Just like Koshi, Pinto becomes a Junior Octo-Agent at the end of this episode.

- This is Pinto's first appearance since Season 1 of the original series. and fourth appearance in the franchise overall.
- Pinto no longer wears his scarf from The Great Penguin Race, and now wears a backpack with a fish pattern since he is attending school.
- In the U.S dub, Pinto has a brand new voice actor who replaces Jaimie Kelton. He notably sounds more older, and instead of his family's signature Hispanic accent in the dub, now sprouts an American accent.
- This is Koshi's second appearance in Above & Beyond, and third appearance in the franchise overall.
- This episode is the first time two junior Octo-Agents have ever met (Pinto and Koshi).
- This episode marks Pinto's first adventure out and above the ocean, and making a new friend without adult supervision.
- This is the second episode where someone rides on a hoofed animal (Pinto rides on Elton the Elk).
- Before Shellington shows the injured baby sea turtle, it can briefly be seen sliding down a rock, which is what caused it's injury.
