”The Octonauts and the Frigatebird” is the second episode of the Above & Beyond spin-off series' fourth season.
Tracker and Kwazii help some blue-footed booby birds whose food keeps getting stolen by a frigatebird.
Plot[]
The episode begins with Tracker approaching an island in the Galapagos in the Terra-Gup 6. He contacts Captain Barnacles, who tells him to keep the Terra-Gup 6 in good condition. Upon arrival, Tracker notices a blue-footed booby named Bobby dive into the water and come back out with a fish in his beak. However, he is hounded by a magnificent frigatebird named Antonio, who steals his fish and eats it. Tracker lands and talks to Bobby and his mate Bonnie and his son Billy. Bobby explains that he goes out to sea to catch fish for Billy, but Antonio keeps stealing his catch, as that is how frigatebirds hunt. Tracker offers some fish biscuits but only has 3. Without many other options, he sounds the Octo-Alert.
In the Octopod, Barnacles, Kwazii, and Shellington answer the alert as Tracker explains the situation. Shellington explains that frigatebirds like Antonio often steal food from other waterfowl and are often called "pirate birds". This idea stuns and annoys Kwazii, who offers to go to the Galapagos to help Tracker. Barnacles agrees, and Kwazii departs in the Gup-R. After scaring away some frigatebirds who were following some dolphins, the dolphins lead Kwazii to the Galapagos. Meanwhile, Tracker has given away his last fish biscuit, so Bobby goes back out to sea.
Bobby catches another fish, but Antonio again pesters him. Kwazii tries to scare Antonio away, but Bobby drops his fish and Antonio eats hit. Kwazii then bashes the Gup-R against some rocks as he makes his way to shore. Kwazii decides to fly the Terra-Gup 6 to deter Antonio, thought Tracker is initially reluctant since he promised Captain Barnacles that he'd keep it safe. Bobby goes for another catch, and Kwazii uses the Terra-Gup 6 to prevent Antonio from bothering Bobby. Bobby makes his way back to shore with the fish and feeds it to Billy. Bobby goes out for another catch, but Antonio hides under the Terra-Gup 6 and once again steals Bobby's catch.
Antonio lands on some rocks but is knocked off by some waves and starts sinking. Tracker realizes that frigatebirds' wings are not waterproof like boobies' and thus cannot go into the water and swim, which is why Antonio kept stealing Bobby's catch. Tracker has Kwazii bring the Terra-Gup 6 underwater to rescue Antonio. Kwazii then wonders what to do and remembers the dolphins he followed to the Galapagos, giving Tracker an idea.
Kwazii flies Tracker and Antonio to the dolphins and find some frigatebirds following them. Tracker shows Antonio that the other frigatebirds are not stealing from the dolphins, instead eating what they push up to the surface. Antonio follows the other frigatebirds and thanks the Octo Agents.
Later as Kwazii has returned to the Octopod, as Bobby peacefully catches more fish for Billy, Tracker contacts Captain Barnacles about how he got the Terra-Gup 6 wet. Captain Barnacles understands and proposes to have the gups engineered to be prepared for more water-related rescues. The episode ends with Tracker wholeheartedly agreeing.
