Octonauts Wiki

The Octonauts and the Galapagos Tortoise” is an episode of the Above & Beyond spin-off series' fifth season.

Plot[]

The episode begins with Selva and Shellington approaching the Galapagos islands in the Gup-A. While arriving, they experience a tremor, which Shellington remarks is very normal, and find some iguanas in the water. Selva thinks they need help, but they explain that they are marine iguanas, and they are perfectly capable of swimming in the ocean so they can eat kelp. Upon arriving in the island, Selva and Shellington meet some birds. When Selva asks why they didn't fly away when the tremor struck, they explain that they are flightless cormorants and that they can also swim and dive underwater. The duo again meets the iguanas, who sneeze out excess salt, before diving back into the ocean.

Shellington and Selva split up to explore the island, and Shellington meets a Fernandina Island Galapagos tortoise named Gabrio. This pleasantly surprises Shellington, as it was long believed that this particular species of Galapagos tortoise was extinct for over a century. Shellington begins asking Gabrio lots of questions, but Gabrio just wants to sleep. Gabrio wanders off, but some rocks loosened by the tremors cause Gabrio to slide off the cliff onto a beach. The tortoise isn't hurt as his shell protects him as he dozes off, but Shellington notices a large rock arch above Gabrio that is about fall. He contacts Selva via his Octo-watch as he makes his way towards Gabrio, but another tremor causes a rock to land on and injure Shellington's leg and block off the way towards him and Gabrio. Selva attempts to take the Gup-A towards Shellington and the tortoise, but a wave from the tremor pushes the Gup-A to sea. Since Selva is unable to swim, she sounds the Octo-Alert.

At the Octopod, Captain Barnacles, Tweak, and Peso answer as Selva explains the situation. Barnacles dispatches Tweak and Peso in the Terra-Gup 2 to help Shellington and Selva. Meanwhile, the flightless cormorants and marine iguanas give Selva seaweed so she can fashion a rope to pull in the Gup-A while Gabrio digs a hole for him and Shellington to hide in. Selva makes her way to Gabrio and Shellington, but another tremor knocks the rock arch over, burying the duo in rocks. Luckily, Tweak and Peso arrive just in time with the Terra-Gup 2 to move the rocks.

Gabrio and Shellington are safe out of the hole, and Peso bandages Shellington's leg. The episode ends with Gabrio explaining that the only thing constant on the Galapagos islands is change, but he and the other animals adapt to it, much to the agreement of the marine iguanas.
