"The Great White Shark" is the fourth episode of the second season of the original Octonauts series.

Summary[]

Peso must perform an emergency fin bandage on a hungry great white shark. However, they first need to subdue the giant predator using a trick called tonic immobility.

Plot[]

The episode begins with Peso giving a checkup to some parrotfish near a coral reef. As he does, however, a hungry great white shark hovers over them, scaring the fish away. The shark wants to eat Peso, who scrambles into the Gup-E and rushes towards the Octopod. When Peso reaches the Octopod, the shark accidentally swims into the hatch opening when Tweak tries to close it and he gets stuck. Tweak flushes the water out of the hatch and the shark gets unstuck. However, his dorsal fin is injured from being stuck.

Although he is extremely scared, Peso knows that it's his job to help any creature that is sick or hurt. He knows that it will be difficult because the shark has to be moving during the operation, or else he'll stop breathing. Using the Gup-X, Barnacles, Kwazii (who is luring the shark over using the Octo-Ski), and Peso attach a plunger onto the shark's nose and flip him upside-down. The shark feels calm, allowing Peso to get to work on the fin, all the while Barnacles keeps the Gup moving so the shark stays alive.

Peso finishes up bandaging the shark's fin but he wakes up from his temporary trance, flips over, and detaches from the plunger. Barnacles calls the Vegimals and instructs them to get tons of fish biscuits. Peso hops in with Kwazii in the Octo-Ski and the duo keeps the shark busy until Barnacles returns, all while risking the fact that the Octo-Ski is running out of power. As soon as all the power is gone, Barnacles returns with plenty of fish biscuits to feed the hungry shark. After gobbling some up, the shark thanks and hugs the trio for helping him and warns them in case he gets hungry again. Barnacles solves that problem by feeding the shark more biscuits.

Trivia[]

  • In the US, this is the first episode where Jo Wyatt voices Tweak after Jaimie Kelton voiced the character in Season 1. Wyatt had previously voiced Tweak in the UK dub since the start of the series.
