Summary[]
Dashi teams up with her little sister, Koshi, to solve a mysterious disappearance of baby sea snails in a nearby kelp forest at night.
Plot[]
Special Guest[]
The Octonauts are settled at the tables in the kitchen when Captain Barnacles tells everyone that they have a very special guest. Dashi introduces her little sister, Koshi, who is focused reading a book called "Donna Doxi". Koshi apologizes and says she is on the last page of a "Donna Doxi Mystery: The Case of the Curious Cuckoo Clock", she says that once you start a Donna Doxi book, its really hard to stop. Koshi shows off her detective skills by telling a lot about Kwazii by looking closely. She comes to the conclusion Kwazii is brave but wreckless and also very impatient as his tail keeps wiggling around. Koshi then spots some pudding on Kwazii's paw and concludes that he snuck a little dessert in before dinner. After dinner, Dashi and Koshi begin a "readathon" and begins reading "The Case of the Disappearing Camera". The episode shows a montage of the two reading and soon, they fall asleep.
Octo-Alert![]
Suddenly, the Octo-Alert sounds and Captain Barnacles orders the Octonauts to the launch bay and all of the Octonauts wake up and rush to the launch bay as fast as they can, with some even wearing their pajamas. In the launch bay, a mother snail is distraught and says that her babies are missing. Captain Barnacles orders the Octonauts to move out. Koshi asks Captain Barnacles if she can come too and Captain Barnacles accepts. The Octonauts venture out to the nearby kelp forest and the investigation begins.
Investigation[]
In the nearby kelp forest, Barnacles gives the Octonauts tasks; Peso to find and interrogate any sea creatures for clues on who saw what happened, Shellington, Dashi, Koshi to check the surroundings for clues, and Kwazii and Barnacles search the kelp to try to locate the missing sea snails. Soon after, Shellington remarks that the whole area looks like a giant footprint and measures it and concludes that its as big as a bus. On the other hand, Peso talks to a hermit crab and a sea urchin, the hermit crab says whatever made the "footprint" was a "big fella" and "bumpy all over". However, the urchin says that it was "smooth not bumpy", some kelp fish also say that they didn't see it, but they heard a creaky noise, bellowing sound, or snort sound. The Octonauts regroup and Captain Barnacles tells everyone to be careful as theres something big (and possibly dangerous) out there. Koshi suddenly is startled as she sees something swimming in the start, and says its the "kelp monster". Dashi reassures her that its just a ray and they normally live here. Koshi tells Dashi she "knew that" and soon finds torn kelp. Dashi says this could lead up to a clue when they suddenly bump into something big. Suddenly, a Harbor Seal turns around and asks the two why they were sneaking up on him, Koshi asks him why he was hiding in the kelp, and the Harbor Seal insists that he was floating in the kelp and was really relaxing until they swam right into him. Dashi apologizes for the inconvenience and the Harbor Seal says that its alright and remarks that they were strange but they weren't the strangest things he bumped into tonight. Dashi asks the Harbor Seal what he bumped into and the Harbor Seal remarked that it was big and nearly knocked him over when it scraped itself on the sea floor to eat; and it left behind a huge hole on the other side of the kelp.
Mystery Solved[]
Upon arriving at the hole, Dashi and Koshi find barnacle shells and says that they're usually attached to rocks or other creatures. They find out that the barnacle shells lead a trail and stops at a rock. Suddenly, they hear a snort followed by a bellow, then followed by a loud creak. Dashi and Koshi swim over to a piece of kelp where the sound is coming from, and they reveal a whale. The whale tells them that there is nothing to see here and that he is just kelp. Koshi asks Dashi if that is a whale and this whole mystery is solved, the whales back is smooth, but also bumpy, and he was making all those sounds the other creatures mentioned. Koshi concludes that he was the "monster" that took the baby snails. The Grey Whale acts confused and insists that he is just kelp, but Koshi replies that kelp doesn't talk. The Grey Whale begs her to not give away his disguise as he is hiding from a pod of Orca Whales who want to eat him. Koshi tells the whale that they promise that they won't give him away. Dashi says that they want to check him for baby snails and soon, discover the baby snails resting on the whale's head. The whale apologizes and says that he didn't know there were creatures on his head. They then return the baby snails to their mother. The mother snail asks them how they found her babies and Koshi tells her that they followed a bunch of clues which led them to the whale. Shellington says that the whale must of left a trail of barnacles when he scraped his mouth along the sea floor to eat and asks where the whale is. Koshi replies that the whale is hiding, Shellington is confused and says that Grey Whales usually travel to warmer waters at this time of year, but soon realizes when Koshi says that there is a pod of Orcas after him who really want a taste of Grey Whale. The whale then swims up and says the kelp forest is an amazing hiding spot.
End of the Case[]
Dashi uses a whale tracker and it shows that the Orcas are now gone. The Grey Whale is relieved and asks the two one last favor as there is a piece of kelp stuck in his blowhole. Dashi and Koshi remove the kelp and Koshi remarks that it will be a perfect souvenir for their case, the whale thanks them for all their help and they say goodbye. Dashi suggests that they should finish their "Donna Doxi Readathon" but Koshi comes up with a better idea that involves them writing a mystery instead of reading one and gives an introduction on the story they will write. They swim to the Octopod and laugh as the episode ends.

- The Harbor Seal in this episode could possibly have been Harry from the Harbor Seal. However, the Harbor Seal in this episode has a notably gruffier voice than Harry's.
