The Mangrove Mission

”The Octonauts and the Mangrove Mission” is an episode of the Above & Beyond spin-off series' fifth season.

Plot[]

The episode begins at the Reef Base, where Selva and Tweak are watching the Vegimals wash the Terra-Gup 3 after it got dirty from their last trip to the Amazon. Suddenly, the Octo-alert sounds, and it is from Calico Jack and Pete in an American mangrove. Tweak, Selva, and Vegimals tune in while Captain Barnacles, Shellington, and Dashi answer from the Octopod. Calico Jack explains that a river has been filled with sand and mud and the mangrove saplings planted by the Octonauts earlier are not doing very well, and his boat is stuck. A crab busts out, saying that a storm filled the mangrove with mud, and if the saplings don't grow, he'll have to vacate. Captain Barnacles deploys Tweak, Selva, and the Vegimals in the Terra-Gup 3 to help Calico Jack, though Tunip is worried about having to clean the Terra-Gup 3 again.

Selva, Tweak, and the Vegimals arrive at the mangrove, and they use the Terra-Gup 3 to tow Calico Jack's ship out of the mud. As Tweak and the Vegimals begin clearing a path out of the mud to let some water through, Selva realizes something is missing: bees. She explains to Calico Jack that bees pollinate the flowers the mangrove saplings produce, causing them to drop seeds that grow into new mangrove trees. Selva begins manually pollinating the mangrove flowers while Calico Jack and Pete set off to find some bees.

Selva starts to grow tired after seeing how many flowers she must pollinate while Tweak uses the bubble filters to clean the dirt and mud from the water. As the Vegimals again clear the Terra-Gup 3, Selva gets an idea: she and Tweak use a bubble filter, fill it will pollen, and use it to spread pollen to the flowers. Meanwhile, Calico Jack and Pete find some bees in a log and guide them to the mangrove before hiding in the river. Selva has the bees pollinate the flowers. The episode ends with Calico Jack getting some pollen on his face, forcing him to hide in the river from the bees again.
