”The Octonauts and the Nubian Ibex” is an episode of the Above & Beyond spin-off series' fifth season.
Plot[]
The episode begins in Africa, where Ryla is helping Peso scale a cliff to get to the top, using ropes and hooks. The pair makes it to the top, and Peso begins his checkup on a Verreaux's eagle named Nora and her eaglet. As Ryla begins descending to check the ropes aren't tangled, Nora introduces Peso and Ryla to a family of Nubian ibexes - the mother Nigella and her children Yazid and Zara. As Nigella also begins descending the mountain, she explains that she and her family live high up in the cliffs so predators like leopards and wolves can't get to them but descend every once in a while to get food and water in the wadi, or the valley below.
As Yazid and Zara play with each other while descending, Nigella calls to them, but accidentally gets her leg tangled in Peso's rope, causing Peso to dangle off a ledge. Ryla untangles the rope from Nigella's leg as she and her family continue descending. Suddenly, as Ryla rescues Peso, they spot a leopard going after the ibexes. Peso warns the ibex family to move faster as Ryla attempts to deter the leopard with Creature Crunch, but the leopard refuses it and continues after the ibexes. The ibexes are soon blocked off the path by a hungry wolf, just as the leopard catches up to them. The ibexes are forced to abandon the path and head straight down to the wadi, and the leopard and wolf give chase. Without much time to anchor more rope, Peso and Ryla use Climbing Claws to catch up with the animals.
Peso and Ryla block the wolf and leopard, but the leopard easily navigates around them. The wolf attempts to do the same but injures her paw in the process. As Peso bandages the wolf's paw and feeds her Creature Crunch, the ibexes find themselves trapped on a large spire, with Zara being on a lower level. Peso sounds the Octo-alert. At the Octopod, Captain Barnacles, Dashi, and Tweak answer as Peso and Ryla explain the situation. Tweak suggests using the Gup-H to airlift Zara to safety, so Captain Barnacles tells Ryla and Peso to hang on.
Ryla helps Nigella and Yazid continue descending, and the leopard starts making his way to Zara and Peso. Luckily, Captain Barnacles and Tweak arrive just in time in the Gup-H and airlift Zara to the ground. Angered that the ibexes are now out of range, the leopard targets Peso, but Nora swoops in and attacks the leopard to save Peso. Peso feeds the leopard Creature Crunch, which he begrudgingly accepts, before scaling down the mountain. Captain Barnacles and Tweak drop Zara off and then head back the Octopod. The episode ends with Ryla thanking Peso for reminding her that there is almost always more than one path down a mountain.
