The Octonauts Explore the Great Big Ocean is the fifth illustrated storybook by Meomi. It released on November 26th, 2012.
Summary[]
Shellington and Tunip were researching underwater habitats one day when Tunip the vegimal becomes curious as to where the vegimals original habitat is and sounds the octo-alert. The Octonauts then make it their mission to find where the vegimals come from and on the way run into all kinds of creatures and biomes to find the vegimals true home.
Trivia[]
- Explore the Great Big Ocean is the only Octonauts book of Meomi’s to have a more vertical formatting, making this book visually very unique from the rest.
- This is the first book to not release a year after the previous one, making The Octonauts & the Great Ghost Reef the last book to release consecutively. This is obviously due to Meomi being busy with work on Season 1 of the Octonauts animated series, amongst other projects.
- Great Big Ocean is also the first book to release after the show has premiered, thus this book includes the more finalized GUPs, Dashi’s updated name, and more unique Vegimals.
- Despite the content being updated to be more accurate to the TV series, many things in the books have otherwise stayed unchanged or exclusive to them. This notably includes Barnacles, Tweak, and Dashi’s designs not changing to fit their show designs. This also includes Vegimals such as Perchkin and Wallabaga debuting but not appearing outside of the books, along with the books overall more light-hearted and fantastical tone, contrary to the animated show’s heavier focus on non-fiction education and high stakes.
