The Octonauts & the Only Lonely Monster is the first illustrated storybook by Meomi in the Octonauts series. It released on November 11th, 2006.
Summary[]
In this first book, the Octonauts meet a lonely sea monster out looking for friends. The crew help him search the four corners of the ocean, and everyone learns the special value of friendship and individuality.
Trivia[]
- Despite popular claims, the Octonauts as characters made their public debut throughout Meomi’s 2004 desktop wallpaper calendars and not this first book.
- The original print of the Only Lonely Monster showcases earlier designs of the Octonauts that are much different from the show. This includes Captain Barnacles without his uniform, Peso with a cross on his hat instead of the Octonauts logo, Dashi wearing a blue apron and blue hair-clips, and Tweak not wearing her pink bandana.
- Notably, Dashi was first named Sauci (for sausage dog) in the original copies of the books, which changed whilst Season 1 of the animated series was in production. Newer prints have updated her name.
- Art of the characters made to promote the book include various differences in designs that aren’t accurate to the book, such as Dashi wearing a blue tie and a belt instead of her apron, along with Tunip having a yellow muzzle instead of white. Smaller differences include Professor Inklings name being written as “Professor Inkles”.
- The only finalized GUP to make an appearance in the book is the Gup-A. Whilst the Gup-E also makes a cameo, it looks drastically different than the design that appears in the show.
- The dark blue, unnamed sub that Kwazii rides can be considered an earlier version of what would become the Gup-B. This theory seems to be confirmed in this article by Brown Bag Films on the Gup-B’s concept designs.
