The Scaly-Foot Snail is an Octonauts episode from season 5. While out exploring the deep sea hydrothermal vents and warning all sea creatures to take shelter, Captain Barnacles, Peso and Kwazii encounters a mysterious creature - a scaly-foot snail.
Plot[]
The Octonauts were having a normal day at the Octopod, until they smelled something weird. They quickly gathered at the launch bay and found that Tweak and Tunip is removing rust from the launch bay with her stinky all-natural Rust-Remover solution. Everyone except Tweak and Tunip was sick of that smell, so they asked when she would finish removing all the rust, Tweak replied 2 days. This is too long for the other Octonauts, so they decided to leave the Octopod for the Octo-Lab in Mariana Trench. Tweak was confused because she really liked that smell, Tunip agreed.
Upon arriving there, Kwazii takes the top bed, but Captain Barnacles tells him to share everything because the Octo-Lab is not built for more than 2 crewmates. Barnacles, Kwazii, Shellington, Peso, Dashi and Professor Inkling soon begin to sense the place is too crowded, as their work and lifestyles start to affect each other.
At night, while Shellington and Inkling was asleep, Kwazii found that he can't sleep. So he wandered to the lobby, and found that Peso, Dashi and Barnacles can't sleep either. Soon, Dashi found a seismic wave close to the Octo-Lab, and would require some of the crewmates to go warn the deep sea creatures of an earthquake. Kwazii, being sick of this place, decided to go with Barnacles and Peso.
While out there, they met a scaly-footed snail called Tiexiu (Rust), who has rusty iron scales and shell to protect himself. The Octonauts then attempted to warn him and the other creatures about an Earthquake, but were cut short when the Earthquake happened. The Octonauts then deflected boulders to protect the marine creatures, but accidently smashed some boulders on to Rust. Terrified, they rescued him out of the boulder, and was relieved when Rust said he was fine because of his exoskeleton.
Meanwhile, Dashi brought bad news to the captain, telling him that the Octo-Lab need to be removed or it will fall into the chasm made by the Earthquake. Hearing that there's a new chasm, Rust left to call his friends for a new place to live. Barnacles sounded the Octo-Alert and attempted to contact Tweak to send in reinforcements, but Tweak and Tunip turned on their favourite music on loud while working and could not hear them. Barnacles then decided to remove the Octo-Lab themselves, and Inkling found a perfect spot for their lab. The Octonauts tried to move the lab with Shellington on the Gup-E and Dashi on the Gup-A. However, the rope connecting Gup-E and the lab snapped, thus crashing the Gup-E in the process. Now, the Octonauts can only remove the lab manually, which they failed to do so.
Just as the Octonauts were still struggling to remove the Octo-Lab, Rust arrived with his friends to the new chasm, and volunteered to help the Octonauts by moving the lab for them. The Octonauts agreed to let them try, so they lifted the lab on top of Rust and his friends, and slowly but steadily moved the lab to Inkling's perfect spot. With the task accomplished, the Octonauts released Rust and his friends, and celebrated their feat. Rust then declared that they are now neighbours, and Tweak declared that she had removed all the rust from the Octopod, so the Octonauts can all return to the Octopod. Captain Barnacles then suggested welcoming Rust and his friends as neighbours by giving them each a rub with the Rust-Remover at the Octo-Lab. So Tweak and Tunip also came down to the Octo-Lab to give Rust and his friends a rub. Rust really enjoys that and the smell of the rust-remover, while the rest of the Octonauts watched in disgust.
Trivia[]
- Tweak's Rust-Remover solution is hated by everyone, except for Tweak, Tunip and the scaly-footed snails.
- The Scaly-footed snail is called Tiexiu (鐵鏽) in the Chinese version, which means Rust in Mandarin.
- Trivia: Scaly-footed snails don't really live in the Mariana Trench. Instead, they actually live in the Indian Ocean, near Mauritius. They are currently found in Solitaire Field, Kairei field and Longqi Field. (Source: Chong Chen, Katrin Linse, Jonathan T. Copley, Alex D.
