”The Octonauts and the Walrus Chief” is the second segment of the second episode of the first season of Octonauts.

Summary[]

A walrus takes Peso's medical bag, mistaking it for a funny-looking white clam. The Octonauts travel inside a walrus colony, but the walruses don't let them enter as it is a walrus-only territory. Captain Barnacles, Kwazii and Peso think of another plan to get the medical bag - by disguising themselves as a walrus, but when they're exposed, they soon find themselves face-to-face with the colony's chief who has a twisted flipper and has been relying on the other walruses to bring him food since he can't swim.

Plot[]

Missing Medical Bag[]

Up in the arctic as Peso finishes helping the last sea creature and prepares to head back to the Octopod, he suddenly drops his medical bag and loses it in the arctic water. Suddenly, a walrus with a broken tusk emerges from the surface of the water and uses it's tusk to find clams. After finding one clam, the walrus finds Peso's medical bag and decides to take it to the chief.

Colony Visit[]

The Octonauts decide to visit the walrus colony in the Gup-A. As soon as they get there, they are greeted with hostility as the walruses drive them back to and the three Octonauts fall into the icy cold water. Back at the Octopod, the Octonauts decide to figure something else out and Tweak proposes that they wear a walrus disguise to blend in with the other walruses and retrieve Peso's medical bag.

Infiltration[]

As the Octonauts arrive at the colony for the second time, they are greeted by a walrus who immediately blows air into the face of the walrus disguise. Shellington explains that this is how walruses greet each other and urges the three Octonauts to blow back or the walrus will think they're being rude. The Octonauts blow back into the walruses face as the walrus welcomes the Octonauts into the colony. As they advance deeper into the colony, they're confronted by the walrus who took Peso's medical bag. After a brief showdown, Barnacles demands to know where the medical bag is, but this effort is soon ruined by Kwazii. As the Octonauts fall, they try to get back into position but they're soon revealed and compromised.

Confronting the Chief[]

As the Octonauts make a run for it, they soon become cut off and the walrus who took Peso's medical bag demands that they take the Octonauts to see the chief. As the chief shows up, he demands to know what the Octonauts are doing in their colony. As Barnacles tries to explain that they were looking for Peso's medical bag, the chief refuses to give it back. However, the chief is soon revealed to have a hurt flipper and is soon unable to move, clenching his flipper in pain. A sympathetic Peso walks up to the chief and asks him how he injured his flipper to which he replies that he "twisted it the other day" and now he can't even swim. The chief agrees to give Peso his medical bag as the other walruses look in awe as he bandages the chief's flipper. The Octonauts soon return to the Gup-A as the chief makes them honorary walruses.

Trivia[]

  • Dashi and Tunip are non-speaking characters during the episode until the Creature Report.
  • In reality, a group of walruses is known as a herd.
  • Early in the episode, Peso shivers a little, saying the artic waters are cold. As a penguin, he would be used to that sort of weather. However, later in the episode, when Kwazii, a cat, falls into the water, he has no such reaction, despite the fact he would have gotten very cold very quickly.
